As a Principal Software Engineer in our Tech Hub in Portugal, you will play a crucial role on the mission to revolutionize the way viewers consume digital entertainment by creating captivating user experiences that keep the audience engaged and entertained. Joyn is a comprehensive streaming service that provides users with access to a diverse library of TV shows, movies, and live TV channels. It offers both on-demand content and live streaming options, allowing users to enjoy their favorite programs anytime, anywhere.

What you can expect in this role

• Develop high-scalable and high-available micro-services, using modern technologies consisting of TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, Kafka, AWS, Gitlab and more

• Build robust GraphQL queries and REST APIs

• Work as a team, respect and support each other in the team, practice agile methodologies and help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.

• Take care of running your services in production, continuously identify and resolve technical debt, quality issues and gaps in engineering processes.

• Focus on learning, applying, and extending best-in-class industry practices to continue to raise the bar on providing developer delight and speed of delivery, all while being the technical point of reference for the team and beyond

• Follow trends in software and streaming tech and turn your learnings into features and improvements that delight our customers.
   

Your essential experience and education

• University degree in computer science, information technology, media engineering, or equivalent

• Must-have: 7 years of experience in API & service architecture design, preferably with GraphQL or a related technology

• Must-have: 7 years of experience using AWS or other cloud solutions at scale, especially auto-scaling and serverless

• Must-have: 7 years of experience in TypeScript/Node.js

• You strive to improve the overall quality and maintainability of the existing code base

• Fluent in English (Portuguese and/or German language proficiency is a plus)
